| We are asking that individuals and groups in Queensland take the time to consider human rights, and the kind of community we want, so that we can better inform our governments of our requirements.
Our first call is that a comprehensive Australian human rights act be implemented. If the national act ignores any fundamental human rights, this will surely disadvantage some individuals and groups in our society.
Secondly, each state should also have effective human rights acts in place. This will ensure that these governments provide everyone with equal rights to access services such as education, health care and housing.
Thirdly, we believe human rights education is an essential tool in fostering a society that respects human rights and thereby strengthening our democracy.
Now that the National Consultation on Rights has reported, we need to let the Federal Government that it is time for a fair go. Human rights must be promoted and protected.
