WHAT CAN YOU DO?

1. Learn more about the National Consultation on Rights. Read what Australians think about human rights and look at the report and its recommendations. Discuss human rights with colleagues, friends and family.

2. GetUp has established a campaign calling for the Federal Government to enact a human rights act. Click here to see how you can contribute to their online actions and petitions. Amnesty International is running a Human Rights Act for Australia campaign to foster community dialogue on human rights in Australia.

3. Now that the national consultation is completed, parliament will decide whether Australia will get a human rights act. It would be a good idea to let your state and federal Member of Parliament know what you think. Their contact details are listed at either www.aph.gov.au or www.parliament.qld.gov.au.

4. A fair go = human rights will support the national campaign of the Australian Human Rights Group, keep in contact with Queensland parliamentarians, draft articles and letters to news media and organise public forums and discussions. We meet monthly to review campaign progress and develop new ideas.

Contact fairgo@justrightsqld.org if you would like to be added to our email list or get involved in this campaign.

FIRST CALL
Australians need a human rights act that promotes and protects all human rights.

SECOND CALL
Queensland and the other states also need human rights acts to promote and protect those rights relating to state areas of responsibility.

THIRD CALL
As part of developing a human rights culture, human rights education should be a priority.
